When it comes to British Asian music and you want to hear songs that have a meaning behind them and want to watch clean and family music videos the name Nafees will no doubt pop into your mind.  After huge success with the single Bukhaar followed by Sazaa, Nafess is back this summer with his brand new single Tera Pyar releasing on the 31st July 2014.  Our blogger Junaid catches up with Nafees who talks about his music journey so far and what's to come in future.

It has only been 3 years in the music industry for you, how has your experience been?

Its been a great experience, but more accurately I'd say its been a journey.  I've seen so much, learnt so much and had so much love from so many people.  It was overwhelming at first but now im just grateful that after all this time I've got a strong group of supporters who still believe in me.

It can take years and even up to 10 singles to establish a name but you've gained so much love and respect after releasing only about 5 singles.  What do you think you did well that you've got such a fabulous response?

I am a big believer in kismat, me and my team put a lot of hard work in, but then again so many other artists do too.  I guess it was written for me so I'm very blessed.  I believe my style is different to the majority of what else is out and also I believe the content and message of my music is something which resonates with people, they can relate to it.  My music is the story of various aspects of my life, its things people may have experienced or may experience in the future.

You got great feedback for your debut track Mehmaan but I think when I mention your name to someone the first thing that comes into their mind is bukhaar!  Which track do you think defines you?

I will always have a great affection to Mehmaan, because that is the song that started everything for me so it will always have a special place in my heart.  But you're right, Bukhaar was definitely a watershed song for me, the response to that was massive and I feel that song made a lot more people take notice of my music. I cant really pinpoint one particular song that defines me, every song I do means something to me in a different way.

Now you are doing something different, collaboration with The Prophec.  How did this come about?

I'm quite particular with who I work with, PropheC was someone whose work I admired a lot, he's a very talented individual.  The opportunity arose through my team and It was a collaboration that both of us were really happy to do.

Can you tell us more about the new single featuring The Prophec ?

I can't really give too much away, but it is a punjabi song which has a lot of emotion and the song itself and the concept of the video is something slighty different to what I've done before.  I'm really looking forward to everyone hearing it.

Your previous songs have had a meaning behind them and were inspired by your life experiences.  Is it the case with Tera Pyar too?

Yes of course, I've had many things happen in my life, not all happy.  But those experiences have made me who I am.  I believe everyone needs to see the good and bad of life to build character and to make you appreciate what you have now.

Do you have a release date for Tera Pyar so your fans can keep an eye out for it?

Tera Pyar will be available for preorder from Eid day and will be officially released on the 31st of July on all digital outlets including iTunes.

If there is one thing I like about your music videos is they are clean and you can watch with the family.  How important do you think it is to keep your videos clean and be a good role model to the youngsters out there?

I'm part of a very close knit family, my immediate family and cousins have all grown up together and its important for me to make videos which I would be proud to show them.  Also being in the public eye it's important to set a good example to the younger generation.

So far Nafees you haven't released a dance floor single as you do what you love rather than engineer your songs to a certain audience/market, but are we ever likely to see something different from you in the near future?

I wouldn't rule it out, but it depends on many different factors.  It's very important for me to believe in the song, whether it's something written by myself or something I've worked on with my team.  I'm very instinctive when it comes to my choice of song and music, if I vibe with it I'll go ahead and make it, regardless of it's style.

Aside from this, what other projects are you presently working on that you wouldn't mind sharing with me?

I've got a collection of songs that I feel suit my style so will go ahead and make them.  I believe in giving my full attention to the music project I'm currently working on before moving on to the next.  Im also involved in some charity work which I'm very passionate about so I'm giving my time to that as well and working with some very inspirational people.

You've worked with Mumzy Stranger, now The Prophec, is there someone else you would love to work with next?

I'm a huge fan of legends such as Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Gurdas Mann and Adnan Sami so if I could work with them that would be amazing.  But there are also so many talented other artists out there, lets wait and see what happens!

Where do you want to be in 5 years time?

I would love to be still releasing music and doing work internationally and hopefully performing around the world, maybe in Bollywood if I ever got the chance.  But most of all I hope my music stands the test of time.  I want people to still listen to the music I'm making now, still enjoy it and maybe reminisce of the times when they first heard it.  Music is a powerful tool and I hope my music leaves a mark.

Amir Khan, the boxer, is one of your best friends, are we likely to see him in one of your music videos?

Amir is a great guy and a dear friend, I have a lot of time for him.  He's a humble person and MahshaAllah has a big following himself so whether he will ever be in my videos I couldn't say for certain, but if he wanted to I'd be more than happy for him to be a part of it.

Are you more of a Bollywood or Hollywood Person?

I really enjoy my Hollywood movies, I tend to watch a lot of them and I don't watch as much Bollywood movies but the music of Bollywood is simply amazing.  So it's the best of both really.

Favourite place in the world for vacation?

I recently went to Dubai for the first time and fell in love with the city.  My cousin lives there and it's an amazing vibe.  I just love the weather, I feel as though you can enjoy yourself so much more in such an environment.  I'll definitely be going back again.  I've also spent some time out in America which I loved, but there are so many places I'd love to visit around the world and hopefully will get the chance to do so.

Who is your biggest inspiration in life musically?

I grew up listening to the legends, Ustad Nustrat Fateh Ali Khan, Gurdas Mann and Adnan Sami.  To me their music was very emotive and told a story both lyrically and also with the way it was sang.  Thats something that's always stayed with me and something I've tried to do in my style with my music.
