Diljit Dosanjh – 5 Taara
No introduction is needed for Bhangra superstar Diljit Dosanjh. He has had another extremely busy year. From his singing to acting he has always surprised and reached above the expectations of his fans! His song 'Do You Know' was very different compared to what he has released in the past. However this didn't stop Diljit as this song also went viral worldwide, like his other songs.
Recently he released 'Laembadgini' where he has tried something different and received an overwhelming response within hours. Alongside his singles he has released 3 hit films this year 'Udta Punjab', 'Ambarsariya' and 'Sardaarji 2.' Undoubtedly he will be releasing many more in the coming years. At the PTC Punjabi Music Awards he received 2 awards for the song '5 Taara:'
Best Bhangra Song of the Year and Most Popular Song of the Year. '5 Taara' has secured a place as one of our top songs of the year!
Akhil & Manni Sandhu – Gani
Earlier this year Manni Sandhu released his album 'Welcome to the Future' which featured many successful tracks such as 'Tu Ki Jaane', 'Naal Nachna' and 'Sardaar Bandey' however 'Gani' by Akhil has gained a place as one of our top songs of the year. The song has been directed by one of the top directors Parmish Verma who also directed 'Khaab' featuring Akhil which released at the beginning of the year.
He also released his single entitled 'Teri Kami’, within a few years the young superstar Akhil has become an international icon and worked with well known artists in the industry. He will be releasing his next single 'Zindagi' next week!
We spoke with Manni Sandhu and asked him why he thought the track became such a hit with fans and what we can look forward to from him in the near future and he had this to say:
“I was going back and forth to India working with Akhil and a number of other artists my brother Jazz had discovered. I remember being sat in Subway in Jalandhar and Akhil was singing some new material he had been getting ready for us. Immediately Gani was the one that stuck out for me and we were in the studio the next day recording.
At this point the music process hadn't even begun. I brought the track back to the UK and started the music. Only God can answer why Gani became so successful. There are loads of good songs out there that never blow up - it's mad easy for good music to go unrecognised. What I will say is that with Gani I never followed a formula or tried to sound like anyone else.
My main objective was to please myself, my brother and my mates. I separated myself from the industry and did what I wanted to do. I also put in months and months of hard work into this track. I would literally stay up until sunlight every night working on it and making sure I was happy with it.
I must have like 50 different versions of the track. It got to a point where it took over my life - looking back it was crazy, but the reception the track got makes all those hours worth it.
I promised myself after Welcome To The Future I'd take a break from producing albums. Albums can be physically and mentally draining, but I've somehow ended up breaking my promise and I'm excited to announce, a new album is coming in 2017.
You can expect one or two singles to drop from me prior to the album but that's my main focus for now”.
Guru Randhawa – Suit
Guru Randhawa has quickly proven to the world that he is one of the top young artists in the Punjabi music industry. He released his breakout track ‘Patola’ in 2015 which jump started his career and has been lifting up ever since. Last year his top track was ‘Outfit’ which was one of the best songs of the year and still one of his most popular songs in his short career so far.
This year has also been a very busy one for Guru having released 5 singles throughout the year including ‘AK 47’ ‘Yaar Mod Do’ ‘Tu Meri Rani’ ‘Suit’ and most recently ‘Fashion’.
Guru Randhawa release the track ‘Suit’ at the end of June of this year with music produced by Canada’s own producer Intense with the track also featuring mesmerising vocals from popular Punjabi artist Arjun. We had a chance to catch up with Intense and listen to his thoughts on the project :
“After making "Khat" with Guru and Ikka, myself and Guru wanted to do something upbeat and catchy so he sent over the vocals to Suit and I crafted the music. We both decided we wanted to take this song and make it more international and Arjun came on the track and smashed it.
I always critique my music as a consumer, if I can listen to the track over a 100 times and not get sick of it, it’s ready to be put out. I told myself if Suit is not a hit ill quit, and here it is now. Every year is different and new and amazing opportunities lie infront of me. 2017 is upon us and everyone will have to wait and see what I have in store for their ears”.
Intense’s most recent project was producing a track for Canadian artist Gurjot Sandhu titled ‘Ishq Nachaya’.

“Att Karti came out as I was always thinking about doing a song where I could speak about both genders. This song has been praising both of them. As I always say it is a team game, my music director Desi Crew, Channa the lyricsist , as always my video director Arvinder Khaira, music label Speed records and my management EYP Creations.
