Alpa of Sabras Radio leaves after 13 years

After almost 13 years at Sabras Radio, Alpa has announced today she will be leaving on April 20th which will be her final show.

Alpa has been the Breakfast presenter for the last 9 years on Sabras Radio & has announced that she’s moving on to other ventures in broadcasting.

“We all need to move on and grasp opportunities that come our way. It's the right time for me to leave Sabras and to pursue other goals in my life which I am very much excited about.

Sabras have given me a platform to showcase my talent and it has been a great 13 years here. I am now looking forward to new ventures in my life and continuing to work within Radio which is an absolute passion of mine. I will miss my listeners dearly as we have become and grown into one big family over the years, however all good things come to an end and each ending has a new beginning - with that in mind I would like to thank you all for your support your well wishes and for being loyal listeners” Says Alpa.

With a huge passion for music, films & the arts, Alpa made the natural progression into Radio back in 1994 with BBC Radio Leicester (Now BBC Asian Network) as a programme assistant & eventually as a co –presenter.

After 3 years Alpa left the BBC to take time out & pursue other activities, until 2 years down the line when she was offered a job with Leicester based Asian station Sabras Radio, where she started off with presenting the Saturday Breakfast show

As her popularity grew, she was then offered her own Sunday evening show called “ Pure Fusion”, which she produced herself to be & was a totally NON Bollywood based show, concentrating on other genres of Asian music inc but not limited to UK Bhangra, Indian & Pakistani Pop music. The show slowly became the highlight of the weekend for listeners keen to hear other types of Asian music from around the globe.

Leading Alpa to interview the likes of Panjabi MC, Jay Sean, Bally Sagoo, Rishi Rich, Ameet Chana, Hard Kaur, Gunjan, Taz (Stereo Nation), Bally Jagpal (B21), DJ Senator & many more...

Pure fusion was the 1st show of its kind on any Radio station at that time in the UK.
In 2003, Alpa became the presenter for the flagship Weekday Breakfast show on Sabras Radio. Which she continues to do 9 years down the line.
“Breakfast With Alpa” was one of the most popular shows on Sabras Radio.

She has become a voice which the people of Leicester & the East Midlands have grown to love & Alpa was given the title of “The Queen Of Breakfast”, a name which was given to her by her listeners.
